Christmas lunch 2019

The Armoury. Shrewsbury

We decided that this year we would travel by Heart of Wales Line (H.O.W) to Shrewsbury and a festive meal at The Armoury which is situated on Victoria Quay by the River Severn. The benefit of using the H.O.W in winter is that being of a certain age or more we could all use our bus passes and travel for free.

There were 14 of us and we met up at Llandrindod railway station on a bright and breezy morning on 27th November. The train departed at 0845 hours and took 90 minutes.

We had plenty of time to go off and explore the delights of Shrewsbury. For some reason some of our ladies were drawn to a large fabric / crafting shop . probably something to do with a discount for those of a certain age.

We met up at the restaurant at the required time and sat down to an excellent meal. The quality of the food and service was brilliant. we were not rushed and it took over 2 hours to finish. Judging by the volume of chatter around the table there was plenty of christmas spirit on show. The ambiance in the restaurant was also vibrant. It wasn’t too noisy though, the structure and layout of the place seemed to soak up a lot of it. I don’t think we could have picked a better place to eat.

As the return train did not depart until 1824 hours we had more time to explore and shop.

We arrived back into llandrindod at just before 8pm. A long day but well worth it.
