The Theatre Group organises visits to a variety of performances at various points throughout the year.

A little about the group from Ewart Hilsden, former group leader …

Hans Lichtenstein started the group soon after U3A Llandrindod started. I became a member when he bullied me into being treasurer a year or two later! Trips to Stratford to see Shakespeare were to be its mainstay.

My first outing was to Henry V, I think in 2008; since then we have been to Stratford usually once a year, sometimes twice. We saw Midsummer Nightrs Dream, As You Like It, Caesar, Twelfth Night, Anthony and Cleopatra, Taming of the Shrew, Merry Wives of Windsor, Lear, Richard II, and Loves Labours Lost.

In 2015 we saw Othello on July 16th, and this year we saw Hamlet on 7th April; we are to see the Tempest this year on 15th Dec. We also saw the musical Matilda in Stratford soon after it opened, and early on we saw Macbeth at Theatre Clwyd. A visit to Cardiff was made to see Les Miserables.

At Ann Parkhouse’s instigation we have visited the Aberyswyth Arts Centre every summer for the past four years to see their annual musical; so far we have seen Hairspray, Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act, and Legally Blonde; we shall see Footloose on 24th Aug this year. We have an excellent lunch at the theatre before the performance. These visits have prooved very popular. I have enjoyed them very much in spite of never having heared of any of them beforehand!

We pay an £18 annual subscription fee to be Associate/Group members of the RSC at Stratford, which allows a £7 reduction per ticket. It also allows us a week or so priority in taking an option on tickets, which we try to do as soon as they are available. The downside is that members of the group have to pay for their tickets many months before the performance.
